Patrick Kane is currently under investigation by the police for allegedly raping a woman in his home on August 2nd in Hamburg, New York. The Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL are both waiting to hear on how the case is finalized in order to know how to deal with Kane.

Kane has had an eventful summer. After his third Stanley Cup win with the Blackhawks this past June, gracing the cover of a major sports video game, and he is now being accused of rape.

On the night of August 1, Kane and his friends entered SkyBar, a nightclub in Kane’s hometown of Buffalo. That night, he met with several women and had drinks with them and by early Sunday morning, had invited some of them to a “private party” at his home in Hamburg. He then went to his home with two women and his one male friend where he then allegedly raped one of the women in a room, leaving injuries including bite marks on her shoulders and scratches on her leg, reported Michael McCann of Sports Illustrated.

After the incident, the women left the house and the alleged victim went to the hospital where a rape kit was administered. The results of the kit administered to Kane’s accuser have not been announced to the public, McCann reports.

The alleged victim did not want to enter Kane’s home. “The woman who allegedly was raped at Kane’s home was not the woman who wanted to go there,” a law enforcement official told the News.

Several friends of the alleged victim have said that she initially refused an invitation from Kane to go to his house, but that she eventually went because she did not want her friend to go alone, reports Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated.

Blackhawks fans are worried for their star player, and the future of the team with these investigations. There are many fans who have watched Kane play for a long time now, and are worried that it could soon end. “[Blackhawks fans] will be disappointed at him, but the fans will always love him because he brought us three Stanley Cups in six years and no one can take that away from him,” Plainfield North student Joey Severino said when asked on how Blackhawks fans will handle it if Kane is charged.

When asked if he believes that the stories are true or false, Plainfield North student Seth Michalowski said, “False, because chances are the woman is just trying to get money from him because he is an all-star athlete and she is trying to take away everything he has.”

It didn’t take long for one of Kane’s endorsement deals to come out and show how they were handling the issue. Kane was originally supposed to be on the cover of EA Sports NHL 16, along with teammate and Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews, but EA decided to change the cover. The cover will now only feature Toews on the cover, hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head by himself.

The original cover featured Toews and Kane both holding the Stanley Cup over their head to congratulate the Blackhawks on their win in the Stanley Cup Finals. It would’ve been the first cover in EA Sports NHL history to feature two teammates on the cover, but instead it will feature Toews for the second time as he was also the cover man for NHL 11.

“In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be the spokesperson for the launch of EA Sports NHL 16,” EA said in a post on Twitter. “He will not appear on the EA Sports NHL 16 cover nor participate in other EA Sports NHL 16 promotional activities.”

It might take a while for the investigation to be concluded, but until then, the alleged victim, fans, endorsements, the NHL, and the Blackhawks will just have to wait. The Blackhawks season opener is on October 7 at the United Center, where they will honor last season’s team with a Stanley Cup championship banner. It is still unknown whether or not Kane will be playing that night, and if he is, the investigations still might not be over.
