Plainfield North, as well as the other schools in the district have adopted a new online transcript system, called Naviance College and Career Readiness Platform, for the 2015-2016 school year.

“Naviance is a comprehensive college and career search, and college application organizer tool”, said Kato Gupta, college counselor.

Students will be able to electronically request their high school transcripts and letters of recommendations, all through Naviance, for their college applications.

Naviance is being rolled out to all PSD202 high schools this year, including Plainfield North.

“It is the only singular way to request transcripts, no more snail mail”, said Gupta.

Seniors should be expecting an email in their school email addresses within the next 2 weeks with their Naviance account information. Freshman, sophomores, and Juniors should be expecting their information a few weeks after the seniors.

“[Naviance] will be the way most students request letters of recommendations”, said Gupta

Teachers will have accounts to help organizer all of the letters of recommendations they get requests for.

Most colleges currently accept electronic transcripts, but there are still a few who do not. “Everything is requested through Naviance, the way is goes out just depends on what the college wants, but most will be electronic”, said Gupta.

Naviance’s main feature currently for students will be the electronic transcripts capability, but as the year goes on more and more features will be rolling out.

According to Naviance’s website, Naviance is a comprehensive college and career readiness solution that empowers students and families to connect learning and life and provides schools and districts with the information they need to help students prepare for life after high school.

Naviance has a 4 step “Lifecycle”, which includes Self-Discovery, Career Exploration, Academic Planning, and College & Career Preparation.

“Right away parents will be getting an email about what Naviance is, they will not be getting accounts until later though”, said Gupta.

Naviance though has a family aspect to it. Parents and Students can work together to plan for the students future.

For students, there is no cost for the use of Naviance, although there is a very minimal cost for the district. It has been a discussion for a long time since District 202 is such a large school district, but in terms of per student cost it is very small.
