Lady Tigers set season goal, ready to achieve

As the 2015-2016 Girls’ Basketball season starts, the girls and coaches are excited for the upcoming season after a great finish at the end of last season.

“I was proud with the way the team finished last year,” said Senior and Captain Dana O’Boye. We went farther than we have ever gone since I have been on the team. We will improve this year because we have all but two players coming back and we all have more experience at the Varsity level. We know what we need to improve on and worked on that in the preseason.”

The season is still young but the girls are 5-2 and picked up right were they left off last season.

“This year we are looking better than we ever have before so we have high expectations,” said Senior and Captain Teagan Epley. Conference champions has always been a goal, and I am also hoping to win regionals to end my high school career.”

The girl’s basketball team has never been Conference Champions and hope to accomplish that goal this season.

“Last season we could have done better but we did play very well and now I think our team will improve because we all have improved on our skills,” said Captain and Senior Jordan Heberg.  Now being together for two years we know how to work as a team rather than an individual.”

Coaching the players both mentally and physically is a key aspect for Head Coach Reggie Lemon because it helps both on and off the court.

“I have prepared the team mentally and physically to play the game as always,” said Lemon. We are more mature this year.”

Working hard in practice is the key to success as well as building a tight bond, so they play as a team not an individual on the court.

“We are very excited for this season, because we ended well last year and we area year older from last year’s team,” said Lemon.  The team will improve because they gained confidence at the end of the season and got a chance to make history here at Plainfield North.”

Team captain Jordan Heberg has recently committed to McKendree University to play basketball and is now one step closer to accomplishing her childhood dream.

“I tell them that I will be there for them the entire way as long as they are with me,” said Heberg. I will also try and pump them up by dancing or laughing with them and when it gets closer to game time I get serious.”

This Girls’ Basketball team has confidence in their play and are ready for any challenge that comes their way this season.

“We are looking better than ever,” said Epley, with shooters like Jordan Heberg and Tierra Ferris, quick feet like Maddie McGath and Mariah Collins, and strong players overall like Amaya Johns, Kelle Knop, and Kristina Wayne. We are sure to be a fun team to watch.”
