Alumni Update: Kaitlyn Fisher OH, Fairfield University
December 17, 2015
Now roaming the courts for Fairfield University, 2015 alum Kaitlyn Fisher is still playing at a high level just now at the collegiate level. Now donning the number eight instead of the 15 she wore during her time at north.
“Playing at North made me understand what playing for a legacy really means. At Fairfield, the tradition that came before me was important. Having prior knowledge of the importance of tradition/legacy helped me fight these new traditions,” said Fisher.
Fisher lives in a volleyball family with her sister, Kaisley Fisher, playing at Purdue University after also playing for North in high school.
“Athletically, I have to be open to a new coaching style and a new group of girls I have never met before. Academically, I actually had to study for my classes and meet with tutors on a weekly basis,” said Fisher.
Fisher was a Right side hitter for North and is still one for Fairfield. She won All-Conference accolades for her time at North.
“The transition from high school and college was really tough. I really struggled being so far away from home, the course load was ten times more than before, and I was being pulled in so many directions because of school, volleyball, and clubs I joined,” said Fisher. “The biggest difference between high school and college volleyball is the level of play. The girls are older, faster, and bigger. They aren’t playing for fun. They play because volleyball is their life”.
Fisher helped carry the team to three straight Regional titles. Along with that, she helped lead the team to the very first Sectional title in school history.
“Playing volleyball at north has helped me. Coach Tracey never sugar coated the reality of college,” said Fisher.
