For the fourth consecutive year, guests have been invited to descend into the depths of the Village of Screamfield.

Screamfield, a popular haunted house, is located in the basement of the Plainfield Police Department. The annual event returns on October 16 – 27, from 6-10pm each night. Tickets for this “full scare” haunted house are $10.

“It is a Haunted House to raise money for the police dept,” said Pamela Mallioux, Key Club Sponsor, “ They may use the money for various community needs such as shopping for needy families during the holidays.”

The Police Department will also host a more family friendly event, Mayor Scream’s Screamfest, from 2-5 PM on October 17 and 23. Tickets for Mayor Scream’s Screamfest are $5, but free for children 4 and under. The event will include a haunted house, face painting, trick-or-treating, games, a hayride and more.

Since 1983, the Foundation for Excellence has raised and contributed more than $300,000 to support District 202 students and staff in the form of grants, scholarships and special funding. It has also supported special programs including a District Art Gallery, the Great Read Community Reading Program and the 1847 Schoolhouse Restoration.

“Anyone in Plainfield can participate. Students aged 14 and older are needed as actors/actresses in the haunted house, people are needed to build the sets, make-up artists are needed, people to sell tickets, give tours, clean up etc,” said Mailloux.

There are many clubs at different schools that participate in contracting and running the haunted house, such as the Key Club from Plainfield North.

“Key Club participates as it is great to give back to the community,” said Mailloux, “It helps develop leadership skills as there are many committees while building the haunted house that need leaders. The money raised goes right back to the community.”
